This site is intended to share the insight, knowledge, experience and expertise of a coach who has had more than 50 years of coaching at the elite levels of the sport of track and field. In addition to having been named to a record four U.S. Olympic staffs, I have had the good fortune to coach athletes onto Olympic teams for every Olympiad since 1968 through 2004.
As I review the diversity of events, I really realize just how fortunate I was to have been involved with so many talented people in so many different events. For example, Esther Stroy made the 1968 U.S. Olympic Team as a fourteen year old 400 meter runner. Jarred Rome and Ian Walz made the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team in the discus. In between there were athletes in events like the 1500( Patti Sue Plumer - '88 and 3,000 '92 & Jeff Atkinson - '88 ), Gerald Tinker and Tommie Turner ( '72, 4 x 100 and 4x400 relay respectively). Other Olympians, among others, include long jumpers, hurdlers, and 800 meters.
I then decided to start my own website so I could help new, confirmed ans experienced athletes to reach their maximum potential. And now here we are at SPIKES AND FLATS reviewing runs, competitions and results from top athletes, learning a lot everyday about running, jumping, and sports in general.
On this website you will be able to find some of my best takes on running as well as interesting stories. For those who want to really push their limits, I also give individual and collective classes for every level of athlete.
